Stacked Light Images show up Grey
« on: 2015 April 18 02:44:56 »
I guys.

I was wondering if someone can please help me. I am new to Pixinsight and I am trying to stack some Light frames i have but when i stack them using "ImageIntergration" they come up Grey.

I dont have Bias, Darks or Flats so I cant do Batchprocessing.

Any help will be much appreciated.

What camera are you shooting with? Since you are expecting color I'm guessing DLSR or other OSC. If so, did you debayer?

Hi

I have got a Canon 700D. Am I shooting in the wrong mode? I shot Raw pictures and don't understand why i should be debayer'ing my photos. I read up on debayer and understand the process behind it.

if you have an OSC/DSLR then you must debayer. that's just the way it is.

Debayering always needs to happen to one shot color imagers like DSLRs. For conventional images the processing software does this step transparently. In astro imaging software like PixInsight it is an explicit step.

Okay this is weird. I used the same images on another computer and when i stack them they are automatically "RGB"? On my main computer at home they still turn out Grey and therefore i have to do Debayering.

Does anyone know what the reason for this is?

You need to give more details on the two processes on each computer. Obviously they are not the same.

Hi NGC7789.

In fact the processes are exactly the same on both computers. I take the exact same photos and use "ImageIntegration" to stack them and my home computer the images turn grey after stacking with default settings and on my laptop at work they are RGB with the same default settings.

Are you stacking with Image Integration? Are the colors "correct" in the version the seems to be making the RGB?

I am stacking DSLR photos which are in colour. When i am done the one computer turns them "grey" and the other computer turns them into a "RGB" picture.
And yes i am stacking with ImageIntergration. I don't know if the image colours are correct.

Like mentioned before i don't have darks, bias or flat frames.

Here is the image i made. I did the first half of the photo on the work computer which made a RGB main and the second half on my home computer.

DSLR images are not color until they are debayered. If you align and integrate them without debayering then they will be monochrome (grey). Check your DSLR_RAW settings. I believe one of the tick boxes sets it to automatically debayer but I'm not at my PI computer right now so I can't be sure.

I know you said that DSLR photos are Grey until you use Debayering. That image was done without Debayering the image. Like i said i dont understand why my work laptop turns them to RGB when stacked and my home PC which i prefer editing on , turns the picture Grey.

If you have confirmed that your DSLR_RAW settings are the same on both computers and the workflow is the same then I guess I don't know. Are you sure you are using RAW files in both cases? Is it possible some other program on the computer is doing something to the images before you stack them in PI?

yea man i got no idea. I don't know what you mean by DSLR_RAW settings, or where to find it.

I personally think it is another program's settings that might be interfering with the settings. I got a feeling that its Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
