New PixInsight.com Website
« on: 2014 February 24 09:19:31 »
Hi all,

After more than one month of hard work, I am proud to announce the new pixinsight.com website that we have launched officially today.

The new website has been redesigned and reimplemented from scratch to provide a completely different look with improved navigation, functionality and security.

New Licensing System

Our licensing system has also been largely improved. From our Software Distribution System, now you can:

* Reset your password. If you happen to forget your password and/or user name, click on the "Forgot your password?" link at the bottom of the login page. You'll be asked to enter the email address that you have currently associated with your license, then you'll receive an email with instructions to reset your password.

* Change the email address associated with your user license. Log in with your user name and password. On The main software distribution page, click the "Email Address Change link". Read the information, enter your new email address, and click the Submit button. Being your email address the most critical and sensitive element of your user license, we have implemented a two-step secure email change procedure. You'll receive two confirmation email messages:  One at your current email address, and a second one at the new address that you specify. Only if both confirmation steps are completed successfully, the new address will be associated with your license. This is a secure procedure to protect your identity.

* Reactivate your license. Log in with your user name and password. On The main software distribution page, click the "License Reactivation" link, read the information given, and click the "Request License Reactivation" link. You'll receive an email with a confirmation link. Once you confirm the operation, you'll receive a second email with new license activation codes for your license.

* Move a trial license to a different machine. Just request a license reactivation. The new activation codes will let you install and use PixInsight on a different machine (but, of course, the machine where you activated your license previously will not be authorized anymore, since a trial license can only be used on a single machine at a given time).

New Contents

In the Software Tutorials section you'll find new articles with material that we have been posting on this forum for several years. In all cases these tutorials provide essential information on PixInsight tools, features and functionality, and have been completely revised, updated and extended. We'll implement the same strategy to rescue and update many invaluable image processing examples that have been posted here.

The reference documentation has been recompiled with the latest version of the documentation compiler script, and is now available online. While we find time to complete a full-featured implementation, this is a temporary solution to make the available documentation accessible from the main website.

Removed Contents

A number of obsolete tutorials and examples have been removed, some of them dating back to 2005. These documents no longer were providing accurate information on PixInsight tools and techniques, and in some cases they contained wrong concepts and procedures, giving a false picture of PixInsight's current development state.

In a few cases we have removed obsolete tutorials on important topics that have no replacement (PixelMath, introduction to PCL development). We'll try to replace these documents with fresh material as soon as possible.

Supported Browsers

The new website requires support for HTML5, CSS3 and SVG1.2, along with JavaScript and DOM level 3. This is no problem at all with Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera, but the minimum supported version of Microsoft Internet Explorer is IE 9.

We still have to improve usability of the new website on small mobile devices. Right now there should be no problems on Full HD tablets such as Sony Xperia Z and similar devices.

I hope you like it. If you experience any problems using the new website, or if you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Very nicely done. The old site wasn't bad, but this is far better.

Nice work!

Great work on the new website!!!

I do have one problem but it's probably my monitor.
I'm set to a resolution of 1920 x 1080 which it the highest I can go
The problem I have is the images that scroll through the page don't even come close to fitting.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi Juan

I cannot go further than the home screen on my iPad mini (last version). Is there any issue with iPads?

Best regards

I have a new iPad air and the only link that will open from the home page is the gallery. And I have to say that it appears to be using a lot of resources. I had to close out most or all of my underlying apps, not many were really going, to keep Safari from crashing. Same thing on my wife's iPad. But on a desktop, nice job. Thanks

Brilliant, a great improvement.

Just one comment several links force you to leave the site rather than opening a new tab, i.e. Resources > Pixinsight Studios, which is not a good idea, can you add the attribute target="_blank" to these links.

Good point. I suppose that since XHTML forbids the target attribute, we forgot it long time ago. HTML5 allows it, so welcome back, target="_blank" !

From time to time :)

The problem is Safari. The latest versions seem quite buggy. Since we don't have any Apple mobile device, it is very hard for us to look for a solution. I strongly recommend Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Both work without any issue.
