Hi all,

This demo reel shows some real-time processing steps with an M51 image acquired with Calar Alto's 1.23 meter Zeiss telescope. Vicent Peris will describe these techniques during his image processing workshop at Adler Planetarium:

Also at PixInsight Studios:

And for Europeans who cannot go to Chicago ? will be some documents available after the meeting ? or PSM files , or tutorial to explain the process of M51 ?

Hi,

the registration webpage will be setup VERY soon.

Also we're working on the possibility to offer the workshop through Internet at a reduced price.

Regards,
Vicent.

Appreciate you sharing the M51 video. It was interesting to see the work flow used. It would be infinitely more valuable if you could share with us the settings used in the various processes. Perhaps you could post screen shots of the process module dialogs for each of the processes. Pleaseeee. :P Or was the video just a teaser, we have to go to the work shop to learn things like settings. ;D Unfortunately, I can't be there so here's another vote for some sort of tutorial that shares the conference goodies. Certainly something I would be willing to pay for.

Cheers,

It's funny how the workflow shows a significant hole in the PI/PSM structure. You first have to draw the previews by hand, otherwise the processes won't work. I hope the project feature will address this. Well, it must otherwise that feature will be incomplete :)

You have a good excuse.....I am 1.5 hours from downtown Chicago by rail and still cannot go.  Well, I suppose I could but I am not ready.  I have no useful data for the class as I am still trying to get everything together to get back into astrophotography

You should go data or not.
You might have to travel further next time

I agree with Max - if I was only a few hours away, I would go.

The opportunity to see how PI can be used will be a HUGE learning experience - and the ability to ask questions 'live' would be a huge advantage.

It doesn't matter that the data you see being processed 'isn't yours', it will be 'real data', and the processing steps being demonstrated will still be 'generally applicable' to other images as well.

Apart from anything else, you will have the chance of meeting with a key member of the PixInsight development team - remember, if Vincent shakes your hand, you will NEVER be able to wash that hand again :D

So if I show with no data, I am to assume that Vincent will provide me with data to use for the class (I understand Vincent would have to answer this)?

Which leads me to another thought I have had for a week or so but was a bit hesitant to voice this "thought" on this forum since I am really new.  But, here goes.....

Would it be possible, or even appropriate, for a newbie like myself to "borrow" raw data from a forum member to practice using PI on in lieu of appropriating his or her own raw data???  In my case, I am not quite "ready" to take guided shots (lacking some equipment).  For example, I could see the PI team storing some raw data on the site that people can download for practice (they would have to be a member of the forum to access this).  There could even be some "final PI processed" images to compare back to to see results and if techniques are understood.  Has this been suggested before?  Is something like this beyond the realm of reality?

Hi Andy,

all you need to do is ask :) I'm sure people will present you with data you can practice on.

Feel free to give this one a try:

you can compare your results with the one I published yesterday.

I sent Vicent (BTW it is Vicent not Vincent<G>) data on the Lagoon and I have no problem with you using that as I will not be able to attend the workshop.  It is HaRGB data from CTIO.

Vicent will have to comment but I imagine he's prepared with 'standard data' for those that can't provide their own. If not then this thread might prompt him to do so :)
