Morning..!
I hope no one is misinterpreting my humble thread...
I just thought maybe some folks were going to take a closer look at PI.
Got me all excited for the team....

I think our previous poster is right....any set of tools can do stuff...
Look at some 2000 year old stonework...(!!)
Having said that...as a (bad) woodworker,I can see what good tools can do..But not when wielded by me,sadly.

Anyways...I am declaring this subject closed... >:D
Euthanasia...

Why? What are you afraid of? A thrasing by Ron and company. I doubt it. The word objective is bit of nonsense sure. Except for calibration, registration and integration results can not be quatified.

I  am sure sensible ground rules can be thought up for general comparision of result.
Ron wrote his book on image processing but spends 99% of his time at his observatory to teach kid science.
I think he suggest this mainly do to the growing interest in PI.

I don't think he has a dog in the show unless he want to come out with new book on PI  ;D

So all you wimps out there. Grow a pair  >:(

Welcome to Pixinsight...What are your first impressions..?

Hi Dave,

I actually registered here over a year ago, and I've been using PI for a couple of years, but I think I'm getting the hang of it  ;D ... I just haven't stopped by very often, that's all. Hopefully that'll change!  :)
Oh and I do have my share of being bashed by a couple of the PTeam guys in the past at another forum >:D

I do remember my very first impressions though: how in heaven do I use this thing??

Well.....(sneaks back into room...)

Why not take some Misti data...or some such thing...?

BUT...I am not "stirring the pot"...
Having sent my humble note/M101 version to Randy...I am done. Its up to Ron to organize this match...If he is interested...and why should he be..??
Not faulting the guy...thats just reality.

I just recently got (essentially)  tossed out of one group...mostly a personality conflict with a guy...
A guy who writes/sells books based around Photoshop...
No big loss...but a bit unpleasant...

Gotta keep SOME places open for me to blather in... >:D

Your right Dave no need to stir the pot.
If Ron comes up with a valid plan then we should not be afraid to take part.
That's all I have to say.

Btw, Dave.
The Spanish Inqusition here is actually helpful.

We have now much more subtle methods to make you suffer... as image processing software for example

Hi Dave

Slightley of topic , but I think this refers to a UK tv program called monty python's flying circus ( 30 years ago )   It was a very uk kind of comedy program , which made a lot out of the spanish inquistion.!

Harry

P.s.

Does this mean the mighty Ron is coming  O:)

In CCD Astro he left a post stating he wanted to "talk to Juan, and gain access to our forum"..
(Me running,and hiding.. >:D)
So hopefully thats gonna happen....
Maybe Juan should "drop him a friendly line".....hint,hint.

Yep,  You need to watch an old Monty Python rerun Dave.
Juan got it too. I am glad it was not lost in the translation.

I just bought a PI commercial license (I like to support software development, even if I don't end up using it) and will try it out on some images as I go forward. I have a lot of different astronomical software, including CCDSoft, MaximDL, CCDStack (and all the other CCDWare products), Mira AP7, AIP4Win, Registar, SigmaClip, PSCS4 and others, now including PI. I have no vested interest in anything, other than the learning curve time.  I would echo what Ron W. said on his forum that over promotion of anything can put many people off.  It is the old 'methinks you protest too much' thing.
I look forward to using PI on my images. Thanks to Harry for the video tutorials, they are helpful in getting started.
Best regards,
Mark Manner
