DBE Result
« on: 2016 September 13 02:33:23 »
I am trying to obtain a reasonable result with DBE but I am having more success in Photoshop.
Attached is my image after DBE at Pixinsight default settings.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards,
Simon

Hi Simon, with DBE can be removed the gradient without problems. Attached the screeshoot.

After extracting the gradient are revealed two others problems that you should try to solve. See the screenshot with pixels not correctly removed (have you calibrated the images before integration?) and the second is a vertical banding pattern.

Hope this helps.

Saludos, Alejandro.

Thanks Ale
I used 3 OIII frames and 5Ha frames with darks,Bias and flats and ran them through Batch Preprocessing.
I was not sure what to use as a reference frame so I used a Ha frame.
Vertical banding I do not know where that came from.

THe vertical banding could be an interference issue with my 12v y cable.
I tried DBE with the settings in your screenshott but could not obtain the same results.

download and merge in the xpsm that he made. you undoubtedly made a mistake copying the settings because it's well within DBE's capability to remove a gradient like you have.

Thanks Rob,
I copied the settings on his screenshott.
I downloaded the file but it only opened pixinsight with no file in it.
I am sorry but I do not understand.
Is their a tutorial explaining on how to find the correct settings in DBE that is not too technical?
Regards,
Simon

do not double click the file... go to the process menu and at the bottom you'll see an option to "merge process icons". select that and then open the xpsm file.

an icon will appear somewhere on one of the workspaces. you can read the .xpsm file (it is a text file) to see which workspace it is on. go to that workspace and you should see the process icon somewhere on the desktop. it might be hidden behind windows. if you double click that process icon, DBE will come up with all the settings and samples as alejandro made. make sure the image you want to run DBE on has been selected (brought to the foreground) first.

Yes, as Rob said you have to merge the icon. After applying DBE stretch the image again using STF to visualize it like it is in my screenshot.

A quick summary:

Download the file "untitled.xpsm.zip"
Go to the folder where you download it and unzip the file
you will get a file called "untitled.xpsm"
Open PixInsight
From the button "Merge Process Icon" load the untitled.xpsm icon
The icon will be located on the right top of workspace number 1
Open your image
Open STF and auto stretch it
Double click to DBE process to load the samples on the image.
Now you must see the image with all the samples located on it.
Apply button (the green check) or drag the blue triangle on the image.
Auto stretch again on STF to better visualization
close DBE

Regarding the lines, you can mitigate them using CanonBandingReduction script. Apply it horizontally and vertically with default values and checking "Protect from Highlights"

Saludos, Alejandro.

When I try and merge the icon I get the following message:
1 new icons had to be renamed due to conflicting identifiers etc.
How do I see the icon?
Thanks

That is because you have an existing DBE icon in the Workspace. Do not worry, the new icon will be merged and you will have both icons.

I did as you said and I still get a strange result.
Attached is my screen shott of my result after applying your process settings and saving the autostretched result.

Simon, the image you have shared and the image you are using has different geometries. The download icon will work in the smaller image, the one that you have shared.
