The new version 1.6.9 of PixInsight integrates better with all supported operating systems:

Windows Integration

PixInsight for Windows installs now on the standard Program Files folder by default. The old nonstandard installation locations (C:\PCL and C:\PCL64) have been deprecated and are no longer recommended.

The PixInsight Core executable (PixInsight.exe), the three updater programs (PixInsightUpdater.exe, updater2.exe and updater3.exe), and all installation packages, have been digitally signed with our new code signing certificate issued by VeriSign for Pleiades Astrophoto S.L.

Mac OS X Integration

PixInsight configuration and settings files are now stored in the native plist format (Property List, a specialized XML format for storage of application settings) on the standard Library folder for the current user. Conversion from the old INI format is performed automatically the first time you execute the new application.

The internal distribution of the PixInsight.app application bundle has also been redesigned and is now more coherent with common development practices on Mac OS X.

UNIX/Linux Integration

On FreeBSD and Linux PixInsight integrates now nicely with the KDE and GNOME desktop environments. The PixInsight Core application automatically adopts the desktop theme and style in use when it detects these desktop environments by default. To enable this mode of operation (which is already enabled when you install PixInsight 1.6.9), select Window > GUI Style > Platform Default.

PixInsight for Linux runs now out-of-the-box without any problems on Fedora 13, Fedora 14 and Ubuntu 10.1 (both 32-bit and 64-bit distributions).
