When to use CosmeticCorrection process?
« on: 2016 July 07 10:07:00 »
Up until now I've used the BatchPreProcessing script for image calibration and registration before stacking images using ImageIntegration.   BPP allows the use of CosmeticCorrection of the lights.  I'd like to try a fully manual process of calibration, registration and stacking.  My question is, when do I apply CosmeticCorrection to the light frames?

After calibration and before aligning.

Thanks.  What's the opinion on using BPP vs. manual calibration/registration/stacking?

I use a rotator and some images are before/after crossing the meridian so I always use manual processes. PI can't tell the difference between east side vs west side images and I take flat frames for each (FlatMan XL) as the camera is not dead center of the imaging train as is with most cases. So the calibration is done with the appropriate flat and it does make a difference, at least with my SBIG camera images. Yours may be different. That as an aside, I like to have full control over the image processing processes. Same with choosing which frames to use before combining them. I'm retired and have the time I guess. :)

I also dither my guiding so that changes the location of hot/cold pixels in each frame.

?? with respect to the stars, yes, but not with respect to the sensor's origin... which is all CosmeticCorrection cares about.
