Mouse Over Text boxes
« on: 2016 March 29 04:48:00 »
Does anyone know how to scroll down through the mouse-over descriptions/information that pop up when using the Pixinsight tools?  I can't read the entire text as the words extend beyond the boundaries of the box.  I have tried everything I can think of but can't scroll down so I can read all the info.  Some of the boxes are small and contain allot of info.

Thanks,

Rodd

I know anyone who uses Pixinsight is confronted with mouse over documentation--I also know that some of the info is so long it simply can't fit in the small box presented--so HOW DO YOU SCROLL THROUGH IT?

what platform are you on? which dialog exactly? is your screen really small? there used to be a problem where the tooltips would be truncated if you hovered over the label of a control, but would fully show up if you hovered over the control itself. but i just checked on OSX and that does not happen anymore...

On my Windows 7 system I have no problem with the tooltips but my monitor is also 2560x1440. Does your system meet the minimum system requirements for video?

http://www.pixinsight.com/sysreq/index.html
Video Hardware

Minimum required display resolution: At least 900 pixels of vertical resolution.
Minimum reasonable display resolution: 1920×1080.
Recommended low-dpi display resolution: 2560×1440.
Recommended high-dpi display resolutions: 3840×2160 (4K) / 5120×2880 (5K) / 7680×4320 (8K).
We strongly recommend a high-end 27-inch or larger LED/LCD panel, or two panels driven by a dual-head video card. For serious image processing, working with large monitors is a real must with PixInsight.

Since version 1.8.4 (released Summer 2015), PixInsight is a fully scalable application supporting high-dpi display resolutions such as Retina displays, 4K, 5K and 8K displays, on all supported operating systems.

You might have a look at the Core UI Resources parameters in the Global Preferences. Maybe they can be tweaked.

I have a 4K screen, a core i7  processor.  16 Gig ram.  My system is as beefy as I can make it.

A while ago, I found if you can't see all the text as you describe, drag the mouse down to the next lower text box and then back up to the one you had problems with.  It (usually) fixes the problem but may take a couple of iterations.

There is a well-known Qt bug, where custom styled tool tips are not correctly generated for combo boxes (you know, those text lines with a down arrow that show a drop-down list of selectable options when you click them). This bug is there since at least 2008, but unfortunately nobody seems to be interested in fixing it.

In the next version I'll replace Qt's tool tip generation code with my own routines, as it seems this is the only way to get this long-standing problem fixed once and for all. Sorry for the trouble.

Anyway, since the OP's complaint refers to "text boxes" instead of combo boxes, this particular issue may be related to insufficient screen resolution as Rob and Mike say, although this is weird.
