HDR processing problem with M42
« on: 2015 December 31 11:20:42 »
I have only been using PI for a couple of months, and, this is my first post.  Two days ago I captured M42 with 24x300 sec, 10x30 sec, and 20x2 sec exposures.

At first I just put the stacked images into the GradientHDRComposition tool (without any DBE or StarAlignment).  The result was really quite good with lots of color.

After reading up on this tool I decided to redo the processing.  I used DBE on each of the three stacked images (300 sec, 30 sec and 2 sec) and used  StarAlignment to align the 30 sec and 2 sec stacked images with the 300 sec stacked image.  I then put the 300 sec stacked image along with the "Aligned" images into the GradientHDRComposition tool and ran it again.  The result was a very "washed out" image where the color was almost gone.

I also tried the HDRComposition tool, but, the results (cosmetic) were not as good as with the GradientHDRComposition tool

Any suggestions on how to get the color back would be appreciated.  Remember I am new to PI, so, please make any suggestions "understandable" to a newbie.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help.

Steve

hard to say without looking at the images. i think if you upload them to some cloud service and post the links here at least someone could take a look.
