Readout Mode Options
« on: 2015 December 20 11:14:51 »
I guess I'm a bit confused, even without the eggnog, about these settings. As I understand it PI saves the pixel values between 0 (black) and 1 (white). Other programs such as CCDStack, MaxIm and so on save the values between 0 and 65,535. Under Edit|Readout Options is an option to change the Normalized real range. Resolution which by default is 0.0001 with options for other choice via the down arrow. See 1st image.

Below that are two other greyed out options:
Binary integer range. Bit Count: See 2nd image
Arbitrary: See 3rd image

If you used the Binary range and set it to 16 bit (0-65,535) would images be handled the same as the other programs such as MaxIm and so on? What is the equivalent to IEEE Float?  If not, why the other choice and what are their purposes? I know PI can read these images but it's the ability of other programs such as MaxIm to read the PI files correctly. As an example, I really like the Remove Hot/Cold pixel routine in MaxIm but if I do my original image calibration in PI and then take those saved images into MaxIm and use their plug-in to remove Hot/Cold pixels and then save again as IEEE Float will there be any issues? Not sure I'm making any sense but I hope I'm getting the idea across.

Thanks,

Steve
