PixInsight 1.8.4.1187 Prerelease
« on: 2015 October 30 18:07:18 »
Hi all,

Version 1.8.4.1187 is now available for Linux and OS X on Software Distribution. It should be also available for Windows during the weekend, and I hope to have a FreeBSD version ready in a few days.

I plan on making an official release next week, so it would be great if you could test this prerelease version. Please let me know of any problems you may encounter, or any suggestions for improvement you may have. Testing the OS X version is particularly important, especially to know how it can perform on high-dpi displays with OS X 10.9, 10.10 and 10.11.

For developers: This version requires PCL version 2.1.0.765, which I'll upload to the official GitHub repositories during this weekend.

Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Hi Juan, thanks for the new version.

I have installed it in Linux and open a project with only one Image, its Lmask and HT tool on the workspace. It opens fine but with the following errors:

Thanks Juan.  The UI looks great Mac OS X (El Capitan) on a Retina display.  But I think the images are still being scaled.

Hi again,

Since some users have reported problems with the new version on OS X, I have blocked access in software distribution to prevent new users from installing it.

Thank you all for your help. I'll let you know when I have a new version for OS X ready for testing.

This happens because you are using a localized desktop environment (in Spanish of course). Some recent Linux distributions with GNOME and KDE have a bug in glibc that ignores the locales being used by applications, and force the system locale even for applications that have explicitly disabled it. PixInsight uses the standard C locale, where the period character is used as decimal separator. Your operating system caused this problem by forcing the Spanish locale when the project was generated, and hence commas where used as decimal separators. This should never happen.

I'll include a routine to enforce the C locale in some critical sections. If necessary, I'll include custom versions of the printf() and sprintf() families of functions to replace those provided by glibc on Linux. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Alejandro,

Try replacing your PixInsight.sh launcher script with this:

Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash
appname=`basename $0 | sed s,\.sh$,,`
dirname=`dirname $0`
if [ "${dirname:0:1}" != "/" ]; then
  dirname=$PWD/$dirname
fi
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$dirname/lib:$dirname
LC_ALL=en_US.utf8
QT_PLUGIN_PATH=$dirname/lib/qt-plugins
QT_QPA_PLATFORM_PLUGIN_PATH=$dirname/lib/qt-plugins/platforms
QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=
QT_QPA_GENERIC_PLUGINS=
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
export LC_ALL
export QT_PLUGIN_PATH
export QT_QPA_PLATFORM_PLUGIN_PATH
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME
export QT_QPA_GENERIC_PLUGINS
$dirname/$appname $*

This should guarantee that no locale change can happen behind the scenes. This is a valid solution while I find another one less invasive with user settings.

Hi Alejandro,

The damaged project has no solution; it will always generate the same errors and cannot be loaded---I hope you have a backup, or that you can regenerate it otherwise! The new launcher script will prevent the same problem from happening again.
