Canon 5DS file corruption
« on: 2015 October 05 03:31:25 »
Hi guys

I can open cr2 files from my 70D but when I open the cry from my 5DS it opens the image in banner form and slits the image into panels.

Is there going to be a DSLR update as I need the 5DS images for the milky way as it is 50.6mp

Also the forum won't let me post an attachment of the image of what it looks like even though the image is only 345kb

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter,

The current DSLR_RAW module fully supports the Canon 5DS. You can attach a raw image compressed as a zip file (for security reasons, forum attachments are limited to a reduced set of binary formats).

This is obviously wrong. To diagnose the problem we need one of these .cr2 files. Can you upload it?

I have just made a quick test with the RAWSAMPLES repository

http://www.rawsamples.ch/index.php/en/canon

and the 5DS .cr2 sample file can be decoded without problems in PixInsight 1.8.4.

Just downloaded the file and still in banner form with panels.

Here is the original file of the milky way

Must be some setting but as I said the 70D loads fine.

the version of Pix I have is 1.8. I have done a check for updates and there are none.

kind regards

Peter

The current version of PixInsight is 1.8.4 for Linux and Windows. Version 1.8.3 (all platforms) should also support the EOS 5Ds with all updates installed.

Looks like you are running an old version that is no longer maintained. Please download and install the latest version available for your platform.

I have done a check for updates and there are none.

Version updates have to be downloaded from the distribution site. Checking for updates only applies to modules updates within a release.

Hi Peter,

Can you download the following file:

http://www.rawsamples.ch/raws/canon/RAW_CANON_EOS_5DS.CR2

and see if you can decode it correctly on version 1.8.4?

Also, can you upload one of your images? That would be of great help for us to analyze the problem. Thanks!

Hi

I have already downloaded the file CR2 file and it does not decode correctly.

I can't upload the original image even in zip it is too large.

Can you access my iMac remotely?

regards

Peter

Maybe upload it elsewhere, then just post the download link here. For an example https://www.wetransfer.com/

Not willing to sign up for anything but you're willing to give remote access to your iMac...interesting.

Do you have an iCloud account? I believe you can share files through that.

I haven't heard of wetransfer.com so I might be hesitant with that too but surely you've heard of dropbox?

Letting a member of the development team into my IMac no problem.....signing up to an unknown domain and receiving hundreds of spam emails every day is a problem.

Yes I have heard of dropbox and have an account just not sure how to direct member to the file I have uploaded.

Thanks
