Harry,

Juan's tutorial on LRGB is where I got started.  Using Previews is essential as it allows you to fine tune its inclusion into the RGB image.  I generally find either bright or dark nebula in the image and create a preview and clone it several times. In ReadOutOptions under the Global section of the Process Explorer, I set "Probe size in pixels" to 9x9 or 15x15.  I then mouse over a reasonable section in an unaltered preview and write down the pixel location of the cursor and the associated RGB values.  With ONLY the L channel selected in the LRGBCombination dialog drag the process icon over one of the previews.  I then mouse over the same location in the altered Preview and compare the values.  While tweaking the Luminance slider in the Transfer Functions section, I iterate through this process until the unaltered RGB values are similar to the LRGB.  Once completed, I then tweak the Saturation values to taste.

Here's Juan's tutorial:

I hope this helps,

Wade
