I don't see the section for asking a question, no matter how ridiculous it may seem, this weekend.  So, why is star alignment before combination called "registration"?  I've looked everywhere for this.  Thanks.

I don't know if here or the general section is the right place for this question.

If I understand your question correctly your asking why is the word "registration" used instead of "star alignment" when processing a group of images. The StarAlignment tool does many function, one is to register images to a reference. The end result is each image is aligned to each other, the stars overlay. The tool can do many other functions as seen in the Working mode section.

In the BatchPreprocessing script it uses the Register/Match Images working mode of the StarAlignment tool. This is why the word "Image Registration" in the BatchPreprocessing script would be correct.

Okay, that makes sense.  I just meant the term in general, thanks.

it derives from definition 6 here:

https://www.google.com/search?q=register+definition&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

to register two images to one another is to line them up so all the features match.
