PixInsight TUTORIALS Complete!

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the completion of the PixInsight tutorial series from IP4AP.com. While it has been a tremendous amount of work researching, experimenting, and documenting the software over the last three years, it has also been very personally rewarding as well as a financial success. So, it is indeed a bittersweet moment for myself, Rogelio Bernal Andreo, and Pete Proulx.

Thanks to all who supported us through the production phases of PixInsight Part-1, Part-2, and Part-3. Several free samples of the latest series are available, as well as sample chapters of Part-2. Don’t forget that the entire five-part primer of Part-1 is yours as our gift.

The Part-3 DVD will be available very soon, directly from us, OPT, Bintel, All-Star Telescopes, Teleskop-Service, and several other US and Euro retailers.

Our intention is to transition IP4AP to a monthly subscription model. This would enable us to produce tutorials profiling changes and improvements to PixInsight when a full series isn’t warranted. We would additionally offer object-oriented processing lessons, walking you thru included data, step-by-step. Please stand by!

Thank you again for your attention, support, and interest of our efforts over these three years! Thanks too, to Juan Conejero and the PTeam, Harry Page, Steve Leshin, George V., etc. for their help. There's a nice thank you to them here and I'd appreciate it if you'd view that.

Bless you Cdesseles, Thanks for that acknowledgment. I truly am proud. Gargantuan effort, but so worth it. It's been an exciting time with a lot of purposefulness. Be interesting to see where life takes me next. As we said in the wrap-up though, I hope to return with new content as the boys incorporate new additions/improvements. Thanks again all!

     Congrats from here too, I have all three series and they are invaluable to anyone starting with Pixinsight.

One thing comes to mind at this stage.....Semi-Live processing examples

It's great to go through tools and define what they are used for an how to use them, it's another to read through
a sequence of events in one of the 'Processing examples' we can all view on the tutorial forums but there is still
something missing for us newbe's.

You guy's could do another series which uses a specific image where you could highlight the issues you recognise
in the image. As the video's go through you could explain step by step why your picking a certain tool to sort out
a particular problem. It'll be like 'Processing examples' on steroids.

I have a perfect example image of M33 which I cant get a good end result on and it's probably because im missing
something simple but vital, or, maybe im misinterpreting the data in the first place.

Just an idea, it's certainly helped me a lot.

Thanks Paul. And, that's what I implied in the original post- 'object oriented workflow', step by step on one object set. Now, of course we do this to some degree on the first 3 recaps of PIP-3.

Is there a thread or tutorial you possibly could point me to about how to assign a GUI with all those fancy sliders, buttons and check boxes  to a simple PixelMath process (or vice versa)?   
Oh, I'm rather a noob than an experienced coder, obviously.

Outerspace, nothing about PixelMath is simple to me! ;>) Well, except the basics. Google or search this forum for Gerald Weschelberger and David Ault. Besides Juan and the PTeam, these guys are whizzes at creating PM expressions for just about everything.

I am looking specifically after some help regarding scripting.
PixelMath is a nice feature - but I'd like to have a GUI for entering parameters both for myself and for those who possibly find my solutions any helpful. 


As far as I have seen for now, any PixelMath process is translated immediately into XML or javascript as can be accessed in the history explorer.
For getting started, I possibly could copy&past the mere functions from the histroy explorer without having any specific javascript skills.

All I need is some "how to - for the noob" to make it run as a stand alone script (header, declarations, assigning GUI variales etc pp).
 
A simple step by step example - say converting a picture to pure black and white - would do for now.
Possibly defining a variable of grayscale as threshold, and use a checkbox to invert.
Also the global functions - "apply" "apply globaly" "reset to default" "preview window"... should be covered superficially

i don't know if you need scripting to accomplish what you want... you do know you can save process icon instances by dragging a process's triangle to the desktop, right? that will save all the configuration of a particular process at the time you create the icon.

you can also save multiple processing steps by dragging the triangle of the history explorer to the desktop. then you can double click the icon and edit the steps if you like.

but i understand what you are asking - you'd like to be able to have a pixelmath expression with variables but be able to control those variables from a gui. is that right?

Yes, I know.
I already found out that in new PixelMath one already can sort of "structure" his expressions and define variable names etc.
This should make it a small step to link it to a full featured GUI.

Yes, you are spot on!

The point is, that having a standard GUI - like all the other processes -  assigned to ones specific PixelMath, one doesn't have to think about his own cryptic formulas again and again, once just a certain parameter should be adapted for whatever reason.
 
Also its way easier to share such modules, here and elsewhere
