Object near M1 (relatively)
« on: 2014 November 11 17:33:51 »
Hi

Please have a look at the attached movie. I have been collecting 15 minute subs in luminance of M1. Can you see the (very small) object to the NW of M1 moving relative to the stars. Does anybody know what it is?

The movie comprises of 8 x 15 minute subs, so I am guessing its not a near low Earth orbit satellite?

Thanks for having a peek.

Julian

Intriguing. You wouldn't expect an asteroid to be so far north and it's too slow for a satellite.

Possible comet??
You can check with virtual planetariums (like CdC) if this is an asteroid.

I got a text file from the web site you recommended, is there any way to suck the data on to an image using PI?

Thanks

Actually Julian M1 is just a couple of degrees from the ecliptic right now.  I believe that is an asteroid.  I captured 270 Anahita close to M1 a few years ago.  Here is a link to an animated GIF - http://www.pbase.com/dtreed/image/108204765.  The star HD 37013 is  less than half an arc-minute from M1.

OK Don

Thanks for that, exciting stuff isn't it?

Hi

After a bit of detective work I have found out what the recalcitrant moving point of light in my image was. Have a look at the image.

Thanks

Julian

Thats what I love about astronomy. You never know whats up there.

Out of interest how did you make the movie? Flickr will not allow me to publish my particular format of movie.

Thanks

Julian
