Hi,

I'm testing PI on an XP Pro box with 2GB RAM and a 2.8G P4D. Sort of middle range system. I noticed the following:

- start PI
- open an image
- suspend or hibernate the system
- wake system up
- click on any PI icon (I tried to close the file)
- observe that no more mouse clicks or keys are accepted by any application
- luckily ctrl-alt-del works to bring up the task manager
- kill PI
- PI restarts
- system recovers

Sounds like something that was already discovered and reported but I didn't see it.

Best,

   Sander

Hi Sander,

Yes, this has been reported by another user. All I can say is I hope all of these issues will be gone in the new 1.2 version. I'm making every effort to achieve that. In all tests I've made with 1.2 in both Vista and XP, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, everything runs fine and none of these problems have occurred. Fingers crossed.

As a side note, the Linux versions have none of these problems. They are more stable, faster, and smarter to make good use of the available memory... :)

Thanks Juan, glad to hear I'm not the only one who saw this as I tend to find the esoteric problems :)

I wouldn't mind running Linux but then PI would be the only software I run there so it would need to be a multiboot system or maybe a VMWare box. That's a lot of trouble :) Hmm, I've run Cinescape under Andlinux. I guess I can try PI as well.

Sander,

VMware is definitely the way to go, IMO. This is just what we are doing for cross development. We have no box running Windows natively now. All of our boxes are running Fedora 8 (9 is too buggy for my tender heart, especially KDE 4) and different versions of Windows and other Linux distributions as VMware virtual machines  8)

Just wanted to report that the lockup problems also occur without the system going to sleep first. I had loaded a bunch of TIFF files and was adjusting the STFs when I couldn't close dialogs anymore. That wasn't very pleasant. If you'd like me to try a 1.2 beta let me know.
