Mask not showing in the Image History

I open an image, a mask, drag the mask to the image, apply an adaptive stretch and look at the History Explorer and the mask is not listed.
This has been happening randomly to me. Sometimes, the mask shows, sometimes ... not.
See image. What am I forgetting to do?

the mask might be disabled; i don't see the colored tab on the image.

this is one of those UI things that i wonder about. if the user chooses a new mask, should the mask state be set to Enabled? right now mask enabled/disabled and choosing a new mask are completely decoupled from one another. it seems to make logical sense that if a user chooses a new mask that the user also wants to enable it.

i make this mistake all the time...

Rob, by color, you mean the brown tab?

yes when the mask is active (in later versions of 1.8) the image tab on the top left is colored.

Ok, I had tried that before but the Image History tab was still not showing the mask.
I had to reapply the Histogram to the image for it to appear.
I had not noticed before (because PI is so object-oriented) but creations are static. For some reason I was expecting a live update.

interesting, so you are saying you had to reload the history explorer to see the change?

Rob,
No. I had to reopen the image, apply the mask, apply the Histogram and then look at the history.
Which makes sense but somehow I was expecting, looking at the History, that making the mask "live" or "pausing it" on the image itself, after having done the processes, would be performed on the History.
I guess I was expecting to have a live History process.
