Need help converting photos to email jpeg?
« on: 2013 November 07 22:28:16 »
I am stuck. It is my understanding that after i do my final histogram stretch i would convert it to jpeg. That did not work. Than I tried saving photo to 8 bit undersigned. than covert to jpeg. When I do this nothing shows up or its very distorted. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just select "Save As", and then in the next window select file type: JPEG. I think you are saving an 8 bit fits right now.

You don't need to convert the image to 8bit since PI does it automatically when saving to JPEG. You also have to check that there is not an ScreenTransferFunction (STF) active.

still confused. I saved as a jpeg in historgram mode with no stf open. when I reopen the file it only shows a black readout. I have to reapply stretch to see it. I thought historgram mode would keep the picture intact when reopening the file.

If your file is still black, it´s linear. You have to stretch it with HistogramTransform HT to get a nonlinear picture.
Stretch it temporarely with ScreenTransferFuncion STF, drag its triangle to the bottom line of HT, disable STF (Icon on the right, picture becomes black), drag the triangle of HT to the picture and you see your object. Now the picture is nonlinear and you can save it as described above.
