Machine just to run PixInsight?
« on: 2013 October 19 10:26:38 »
I'm doing some large mosaics and really struggling with computing power - my lowly 2.6GHz quad-core/4Gb RAM machine just takes toooooo long.
I'm thinking of building a new headless machine just to run Pi....

I'm on a tightish budget so was thinking of something like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vishera-FX-8350-M5A78L-M-Motherboard-1600Mhz/dp/B00F45LMM6/ref=sr_1_15?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1382203387&sr=1-15&keywords=fx+8350

I know that the 16Gb or RAM will help a lot. Will I see much of a difference with 8 4Ghx cores?
(OS will be Win 7 64-bit).

Any help / advice gratefully received
thanks
Phil

You could also using the amazon EC2 cloud...its not too difficult to rent a large memory system there.
