how to avoid 'auto crop' with ImageIntegration?
« on: 2013 October 04 05:13:25 »
I'm trying to stack images I took on 2 separate nights. Camera position/rotation wasn't exactly the same so there are area's without overlap. It seems that the resulting picture would be of a bigger width/height since I'm combining pictures of different angels. However, it looks like PI is cropping the picture to some format. Because of this I can't get the best crop out of the picture as I seem to be missing areas.
Any advice on how to approach this properly?

Here is a screenshot of the resulting integration to demonstrate what I mean ;)

How are you doing the multi night stacking - are you throwing all the subs into the pot or doing each night separately then registering the 2 masters?

I'm combining all images from both nights into 1 stack. (Assuming this would be best for pixelrejection / s/n optimization)

As an experiment, try it the other way... create two stacks then register one master to the other using the image registration tool then integrate them...

How do I do this exactly? If I try to do combine the 2 stacks  I get the message that I have defined less than three source images;

Cannot execute instance in the global context.

Reason: This instance if ImageIntegration defines less than three source images.

Add each image twice to Image Integration and stack.  Tricks it into thinking there are four images.

you need to make your registration reference image the one that has the right angle... but in general there's not much that can be done about this, if your subs don't overlap nicely then this kind of thing is what you get. you're still going to have to crop but maybe you won't have to rotate the image to get the orientation that you want.

Stacking the 2 stacks together gives me the same result.

I understand the corners are missing data, but the other corners from 1 image are showing as well.. I would just like to have them all showing so I can see if I can use it

Hi,

You have to enable the Clip low range option of ImageIntegration (in the Pixel Rejection (1) section). This way the process will reject all uncovered regions due to missing data after alignment, and your integrated image will not show them.

However, this won't change the fact that you'll get significantly lower SNR on these regions, due to the lack of data.

thx Juan, thats working perfectly! I know those parts have less SNR, but the alternative is to not use the frames which results in (way) less SNR in the subject part of the image. So I prefer it to use like this :)
