Building mosaics
« on: 2013 September 17 15:31:50 »
Hi all,

A few months ago I made a mosaic of M104 from the HLA.
I had to use Dynamic Alignment because star alignment couldn't find enough stars.
I now I had to use the Crop tool to enlarge the image so the second image could be merged with it using the GradientMerge Mosaic tool.

I think I found a tutorial for that here on the forum but I cannot find it anymore.

So if anyone knows where it is...

Eddy

Hi,

I finished the 6-tile mosaic of M104 from the Hubble Legacy Archive, using Alejandro Tombolini's tutorial and the GradientMosaicMerge tool.

I only had a problem with the 2 leftmost tiles.
I couldn't get the color right.

Still It look quite good

Hi Eddy, good mosaic!. Have you performed color calibration? I tried it quickly and seems to correct a little the colors.

Saludos. Alejandro.

Hi Alejandro,

No I didn't do a color calibration.
When I did that, the contrast was completely off.
It was only a few days ago when I watched Vicent's tutorials on Youtube, that I realized I had to do a STF in order to view the image correctly. :)
So I will try it again, the final image is quite large, but it is one of the very few I found in the Hubble Legacy Achive, that lets you make a complete picture of a galaxy. M81 is another one, but there you have a very large number of frames, I think about 20, per color, so I think I don't have the calculating power to do it.
