Using Master calibration frames with the BPS
« on: 2013 August 17 12:49:43 »
Hi first post on this forum so I would firstly like to thank all those who have made pixinsight it looks to be a great program well done.
Now the question, when using the batch preprocessing script I presently don't use bias as my master flats are all bias subtracted. However the time will soon come when I have to make new masters and I wondered how the script does this.If I load bias, flat and darks does it make a master bias and then apply this to each flat to make a master flat that is bias subtracted ,the darks I assume will not be bias subtracted as in the majority of cases this would not be desirable. Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy. Welcome!

When you load your new bias, dark and flat frames in BPS it will create master frames and save them in the master folder created in the chosen output directory. To reuse, just load them into their respective tab and check the master frame boxes.

Because PI normally uses dark scaling, the bias is subtracted from the darks as a rule. This is different from some other programs. However, you can choose not to if you wish, by using the stand-alone ImageCalibration tool. I will have to refresh my memory as to whether this can be done in BPS.

Thanks Roland.I suppose it would be possible to do 2 runs using the BPS one for the flats with just flats and bias loaded and one for the darks with just the darks loaded

I have not used it, but there is a calibrate only checkbox to produce your master frames.
