RC5 OSX New Preview Issue
« on: 2013 March 29 13:55:24 »
Hi all,

is it normal that in RC5 the Alt+N is not directly available? Just after pressing alt+cmd+N the usual shortcut command is available?

Thanks!

Best

No, it isn't normal. Alt+N (as well as the rest of keyboard shortcuts) works without problems on our iMac and Mac Pro machines.

Alt+Cmd+N is not the correct shortcut for the New Preview mode (it's Alt+N); why are you using it?

Hi Juan,

Really a big thank you for the huge amount of work you've managed!
RC5 is an awesome piece of software, my bigest respect and congrats on this for the whole PI Team!!

I have to hit alt+cmd+a to activate the normal shortcut. Otherwise PI doesn't take it into account?
Other users encountered this also under RC4, i read it in my other post on cursor behavior...

Best!

I can confirm this behavior on my early 2009 iMac running OS X 10.8.3 although I had been hitting alt-cmd-N to "activate" alt-N for preview as per the previous thread. alt-cmd-a also works for me to activate the normal alt-N behavior. Note that this is only required the very first time for the session. Once activated it appears to work normally as for all views.

I didn't know that "Alt+Cmd+<something>" is necessary to enable "Alt+N" on some Mac computers. Definitely, Alt+N works perfectly on our Macintosh machines.

I'm sorry for this problem, but please realize that we cannot have all existing Apple computers at hand for testing. We have a 2008' Mac Pro and now also an iMac since the beginning of March. We don't have a Mac laptop, and this won't change in the foreseeable future. PI does nothing 'special' with the keyboard (nothing I'm aware of, at least), so I don't know why this happens.

Is this "Alt+Cmd+N" problem laptop-specific? Can you confirm this?

Hello Juan,

Talking for myself I do not think that is a problem. And now I know the right keyboard commands !

Keep on the good job you do !  :)

It is not laptop specific as it happens on my iMac.

But I would agree that this is not a high priority issue. The work around is not difficult and the menu option and toolbar button work as well.

Guys,

I do not think that this is a problem either, but it would be a small step further if solved  :-*
I wrote about because some Mac users could not figure out the keyboard shorty for new preview...

This is a very serious problem precisely for that reason - this is just the kind of things that 'help' a potential user choose one software instead of another.

Our Mac machines have keyboards with numeric keypads. Could this be the problem, that you are using the standard compact keyboard without a numeric keypad?

That is a very interesting suggestion. I only have the standard compact keyboard so I cannot test any other.

Hi Juan,

Thanks for your instant reaction, I wonder how you manage the huge amount of tasks; surely you have a 48 hour day  >:D

I will give it a try with a conventional USB keyboard and keep you in the loop about the result!
