Mac OS printing to HP pro printer
« on: 2011 December 22 11:33:20 »
Hello,

Can anybody help with the problem of printing directly from PixInsight using a HP Pro printer - on a Mac using OS 10.6.8.? At the moment I continually get a message saying the  "wrong size paper is loaded in the printer".  I  cannot find a way beyond this message in PixInsight.  Previously  I have saved as a 16bit Tiff and worked through Photoshop CS5, nothing particularly wrong with this but I am curious to see if PixInsight will yield better image quality.
In anticipation - many thanks.

Hi JEB,

I'm printing to an HP 8750 on an iMac running OS 10.7.2, and PixInsight 64 bit 1.7, and it works fine.

So, a few questions:

1) What model HP printer, and have you installed the latest Mac OS Printer updates?
2) What version of PI, and 32 or 64 bit?
3) Can you pull up the Printer Dialog using the Printer Setup button on the PI Print page, and if so can you set the paper size there?

Yours,

Sean

Hello Sean,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm using a HP Photosmart  Pro B8850, Pixinsight Core version 1.7, and I've tried 32 bit and 64 bit images. I've just tried again and still no luck. Everything seems fine, the printer draws in the paper in the usual way and then up pops the  screen window - 'incorrect paper size detected'. As far as I can tell I'm using the current driver. I will persist, there is probably an easy answer which is lurking somewhere that I've over looked. Best wishes for the new year.

Hi Sean,

I've had some luck. PixInsight will print an A4 image but not an A3. Although my monitor is calibrated the results are inferior to CS5 , they are muddy and lack clarity.  I  need to investigate the PI colour management and resampling process, it is obvious  my inexperience with this  aspect of PI needs some work.

Best wishes
