Ha data in nebula that I want to map onto the red channel
« on: 2011 December 18 04:16:12 »
When I used a DSLR, my Ha data would come out red and I used to convert it to greyscale as that was my preference. Now I have some Ha data taken on a CCD. It is in greyscale and for a change I want the nebula back to that nice rich red colour. I can not see how I can just convert it, or map it to the red channel. I have no source data and I don't want to add it to anything.

I have downloaded the adding ha script, but I don't want to add Ha to anything, so it doesn't seem to work. I hope someone can help me, there must be a very easy way to do this with one of the PI menu's.

Thanks folks.

You just want a red image from your Ha data?
Use the LRGBCombination function (found in Process | ColorSpaces)
Uncheck the L, G and B fields.
In the R field put in the name of the Ha dataset.
The function will create a new image for you with the adequate image size so leave the Target with "no view selected" and press the circle at the bottom left of the LRGBCombination dialog box.

Hi Sara,

Just use the ChannelCombination tool (you'll find it under the ChannelManagement category on Process Explorer). Select the RGB color space on the left panel, then uncheck the G and B channels on the right panel. Select your Ha image for the red channel slot, then apply the process globally (blue round icon, or press F6).

The LRGBCombination tool can also be used as described by Philip, but ChannelCombination is a more natural choice. Alternatively you could also use PixelMath.

Hello.

I have the same question and am following the suggestion and for me I get an image that is pretty much all red. I am working with an integrated HA image of the Veil Nebula. I am taking in channel R of the Channel Combination and unchecking G and B channels. What else am I supposed to do?

Thanks a lot.
