Twenty six hours in the life of NGC 7793
« on: 2011 December 16 08:24:39 »
Here is NGC 7793, a somewhat infrequently visited object in Sculptor.  This chaotic galaxy is noted to have a quaser or black hole in one of its arms (see inset).  The link to Chandra on the website explains this a bit more.  This image is after several months of working to refine our setup at CTIO.  The master frames for this image range from a fwhm of 1.3-1.5 arc sec (seeing often approached 0.5 arc sec at the site).  Some of the Lum individual frames were 1 arc/sec fwhm, so at this time after lots of work, we are quite happy with the new mount.  The total exposure time is 26 hours.

Hi Jack and Steve,

Great to see a new image from you two. Beautiful job processing the details. Nice resolution even in the two small galaxies towards the upper right on the image.  The plethora of Ha  structure in the galaxy is reminiscent of M33. Well done.
