Vertical Mirror from Maxim DL Capture
« on: 2011 September 26 20:23:24 »
I apologize in advance if this has been answered before, but I searched the archives and found answers that came close but weren't complete.

I find that the images I capture are vertically mirrored when I get into PixInsight.

I capture with Maxim DL at its out of the box settings.  All other processing is in PixInsight.

Why is this happening?  Should I just flip the images?  Or change settings on capture?  Or even argue with Doug George about how Maxim DL encodes FITS?

Thanks,

--Andy

It's all about conventions where the 0,0 pixel should be drawn. I'm sure you'll find both Juan and Doug quite certain they're doing it correctly. Luckily PI has an option to change the way it loads FITS files. You may be surprised to find this is the format explorer.

In other words, Under Format Explorer double-click on FITS and a 'FITS Format Preferences' window opens.
Under Miscellaneous Options, Select "Lower left corner (bottom-up)"
VoilĂ .

@Nocturnal -- Yes, I am sure they are both correct!

In other words, Under Format Explorer double-click on FITS and a 'FITS Format Preferences' window opens.
Under Miscellaneous Options, Select "Lower left corner (bottom-up)"
VoilĂ .

Thanks, that's helpful, but am I better off just doing a vertical mirror at some point in the processing since changing that preference will change how all files are read and written?  In other words, will I mess up prior images (not that that is too important).  Somehow I dislike changing a default setting.

Thanks for the help and clear skies,

It does not change anything. Just how the image is displayed.
