Noise standard deviation

If I'm evaluating noise, PI gives me a standard deviation figure. I've forgotten my basic maths! Is a higher SD lower noise or higher please?

The standard deviation is a measure of how spreaded are the values. Larger values means that the data is more dispersed at both sides of the medium value. So, higher the SDTDEV, higher is the noise.
