ATWT - Bug with PixInsight for OS X 32/64 Bit
« on: 2011 January 07 13:49:01 »
I'm having a strange problem with ATWT.  When I go to preview the ATWT - I get one result.  When I execute the ATWT - I get another result.  It looks like there is an off by 2 error?

I've attached a screen shot showing the preview, the original image and the result image.  The result image can be recreated by changing from dyadic to linear, and then putting the bias on layer 4 instead of layer 6.  And of course enabling layers 4-residual.

So it actually has the same behavior on my previous version of PixInsight.  It seems like it is something to do with this image.  Is there anything that could be strange about an image?

i was trying to create a star type mask and the results were so far from the preview I thought I was not doing it right ( might still be )

It is weird - I tested the same thing on a different image, and it works.

Maybe one of the grand wizards can give us some insight?

i'm seeing this all the time on osx... i assumed it had to do with the 'compression' being used to generate the realtime preview... hopefully juan can say.

Hi David,

This is really weird. ATWT is a complex process that cannot provide very accurate downsampled real-time previews (just orientative ones), but this kind of divergence is new to me. The real-time preview works accurately for intensity transformations and relatively simple algorithms such as unsharp mask, convolutions and morphological filters with simple structuring elements. For more complex tools and processes the RTP is less accurate when the previewed image has been reduced (subsampled).

I'll investigate this. As a general rule, for complex multiscale processes we recommend using previews instead of the RTP. There are also some multiscale processes —notably HDRWT— that don't provide consistent results for partial previews (a partial preview covers less than the whole image).

Thanks Juan - let me know if you want a copy of the image I was struggling with.

Cheers,
