Old file format
« on: 2010 December 14 08:46:30 »
Dear all,

Two years ago I processed the Rosette sort of half way - never really satisfied with the result. I was thinking that two years down the road I might have the toolbox to get a better result (critisism may also have gone up :-)

I started to dig into my notes, saved intermediate images and icons, trying to understand what I actually did then. I think I used LE then.

I came across some files with the file extension filename.pi-psm, which I think is something like a process module(?). Anyway when I try to open them in PI (right click on the desktop, open process icons) I just get an error message stating that the file type is wrong.

How can I open these .pi-psm files in PI?

Hi Matts

No, the current platform uses a different codification for the process icons. Also, the processes itselves were wroted again, so there is incompatibility at that level too. The best solution I can think of is running the LE application and PI Core at the same time, and then manually recreate the icons.

Carlos,

Thanks for that piece of information. It sure explains why I am having difficulties  ;)

Would have been nice with some backward compatibility function, but ok I can understand the need to get rid of old legacy every now and then.

Is it possible to download good ol' LE from somewhere?

Hallo again,

I have been searching around and it seem as if there is no way to download PI LE - it has seased to exist as they say.

So my issue remains - how to open a .pi-psm file?

I think the answer is "you can't, sorry". My recommendation is stop worrying and simply re-process your image. My other recommendation is to not un-install software you care about and to keep a copy of downloaded files in case the author decides to pull it from publication like Juan did with LE.

You could post your psm here and hope someone who has LE installed will send you a screen shot. I have to wonder what you really hope to gain from all this trouble though. You could have been done reprocessing already :)
Best,

Hi Sander

Of course if I understood it would be a hazle I might not have started this quest. The reason is that I apparently did something good, which I do not remember and fail to re-produce. Then judging from the intermittent image files I did something that made things go bad....

I will see if I get hold of someone that has LE installed.
