Pixinsight purchase 32 v 64 bit
« on: 2010 October 28 06:43:05 »
Hi,

I am close to buying Pixinsight (mainly thanks to Harry's tutorials). My question is related to 32 v 64 bit.

Currently I have 32 bit Windows 7 for the trial. I am interested in trying out 64 bit Win 7. I know Pixinsight is available in multiple versions (including 32 and 64 bit).

If I purchase a license can I use the 32 bit Pixinsight on Win 7 32 bit and the 64 bit Pixinsight on Win 7 64 bit?? I read that a license can only be registered once - can the license be used on both versions of Windows?
I'd really like to try 64 bit but don't want to end up only being able to use it on this platform if I am restricted to a single platform!

thanks

Paul

I'm pretty sure the license agreement and the website is very very clear that you can run PI on any platform you like with the same license. If you've found information to the contrary please post a link to it.

Your worries are unfounded.

Hi Paul,

Welcome to PixInsight Forum.

Indeed you don't have to worry about this. Our commercial license allows you to install and use PixInsight on all supported platforms, on all machines you own, including 32-bit and 64-bit versions. You have all the details on how to transfer a PixInsight license to different machines on our FAQ page. In particular, FAQs 2.5 to 2.9 should answer your questions in this regard. Let me know if you need more information.

Hi Paul,

Juan has pretty much hit the nail on the head, but the simple summary is 'don't worry - be happy' :D

PixInsight aims to empower, not to embitter. If you ever feel that you might be trying to operate PI outwith the extremely generous licensing agreement that Juan offers, drop him a line. He will either accommodate you, or explain why 'it can't be done'.

For an amateur 'home user' there are very few restrictions, other than the obvious 'don't rip me off' type. If you treat PI the way you would expect 'your' software to be treated, you will be pretty much OK.

Well I've gone and done it - purchased it this weekend  :)

As a point of feedback the only reasons I bit the bullet was with the help of Harry's videos and that you granted me a second trial license - so thankyou.

I have upgraded to Windows 7 64bit and after a late night getting some of it working the way I want my PC is up and running. Will have to start playing with images now!

regards

Paul
