Here's another one: steps.
« on: 2010 July 20 11:02:22 »
You guys tired of all my questions?   :sealed:

Hope not! Sp please forgive me but I am trying to work my way through PI learning curve!

So, i Photoshop I usually work with layers. At the end of processing a picture I would have usually about 15-20 layers with all the different steps, from the initial FIT to the final "product". I am used to save the image with all the layers, so that I can go back and change something around if I need to, or have made a mistake, or learned a new step which might be better than another one.

Can the same thing be done with PI? Meaning, I am processing a picture now, but how can I go back - let's say in a month  - and look at all the processes (layers in photoshop) that I have used, and make some changes to some?

Thank you,
E.

Hi,

a long time ago I asked Juan to implement what I call a 'project' feature which implements what you're talking about but goes further in that it saves a collection of files and associated history. Essentially I want PI to be able to save its current state including undo/redo for all open images, previews etc. as a named file or collection of files in a directory. I believe Juan is working on this.

In the meantime you can open the process history for your image, drag its icon to the desktop as save it as a psmx file. This can then be loaded later and you can examine the steps you took. The problem is that the psm file isn't associated with a particular file so you need to keep track of that yourself. In addition you are responsible for re-creating any relevant previews and loading files used as masks and references if they are used. In other words it's a partial solution but better than nothing.
Best,
