So I could, say, assign Ctrl+1 to invoke HistogramTransform, Ctrl+Shitf+P to delete all previews, stuff like that...

Almost posted something like this recently, but tried to behave as I'm only new with this beast.  Can be a huge help in complex software were your often calling up the same tools frequently.

I assure you I use many of the predefined shortcuts already

Predefined keyboard shortcuts do exist for a number of tasks (I wouldn't say "most"), but my request is a tool so I can define my own.

In any case, if anyone can tell me the current shortcuts for the two tasks I mentioned as an example, that'd be nice

About the first one, it could be done by adding that action to the IntensityTransform module, and compiling it again (who said it was an easy solution?).

I guess this is overlapping into the domain of not only assigning keys to actions/processing, but also scripts ("macros")

I can't figure out how to get F12 to do a STF on an image?

I think the elegant solution really is to have a module that allows the user to assign shortcuts to tasks... I really said Ctrl+1 just as an example.

It's not unusual to see this kind of functionality in many other programs. Considering PI allows you to customize the text for <No View Available> or the color for more things most people would care to have the colors customized (not that I'm complaining about that!), I think custom keyboard shortcuts is something just as important/useful. Anyway, there's the suggestion/wish...

I just removed the splash screen. As I'm sure you know, THAT is customizable 

I'm just a bit surprised about the poor reception of this suggestion.
Maybe I'm the only one who uses the keyboard anytime I don't have to use the mouse.
Programmers usually do that... They also like to customize the splash screen
