Hi Harry - I didn't do anything to 'recover' mine.

But when I first revisited the site I did have to log back in (which wasn't easy, as I hadn't a CLUE what my username and password was - fortunately it is EXACTLY the same username and password as I use for my offshore bank account, so - luckily - I had it written on the wall in crayon - sheesh, my memory)

What was I saying? Oh yes . . .

Once I logged in I noticed that my picture was there, and didn't give it another thought.

What I AM having trouble with is when I am typing in responses - once I 'scroll off' down below the edge of the 'entry pane' - all hell breaks loose. After EVERY single character I type, the entry box scrolls back up to the top - so I end up 'typing blind'. It is absolutely infuriating - but I have been too busy to even check whether it is just THIS particular computer, or whether this is a generic problem (which I don't think is anything to do with the server move).

For example, the text entry box is fine for this line - it has even scrolled down one line. But I can still see what I am typing.

But now, every character I type causes the window to 'blink down' to show the character for a millisecond or so, then scrolls back up to only show the (empty) line immediately above this one. And if I need to correct one of my hundreds of typos, I have to drag the slider bar down (the scrollwheel doesn't work), then click where I want the caret to be placed, and then memorise how many Backspace or Delete presses are needed. Mouse selection for cut'n'paste doesn't work at all (all of this has been typed 'blind').

So - you can imagine how much fun I have been having trying to write my sagas for Dave Halliday !!

Hi Harry,

I don't know. I suppose the images have been lost somewhere in the cyberspace... I suggest re-uploading them. Sorry!

Hi all - and welcome back Juan - I thought we had lost the site for ever this afternoon - when I was getting nothing but "Internal Server 500" errors from all PCs, using all my ISP links.

One thing Harry - I also checked the 'non-scrolling' editor window on a different PC - and the problem was NOT present on that machine (XP and IE7). Unless something has been fixed, today, I will assume that it must be common to this machine (Vista64 and IE8) and yours.

Ouch! I suggest to try with a real browser, such as Mozilla Firefox, Opera or even Safari, for example.

As you probably know, IE is the mother of all disasters and headaches in the WWW. Take a look at this page; it's funny ;D

Hi all,

Back to the 'crazy scrolling' problem described earlier.

It is DEFINITELY an IE8 problem.

This PC had been working perfectly until our IT department upgraded from IE7 to IE8 overnight - and now it has exactly the same problems.

Will this force me to change to Firefox, etc.? Don't know - I prefer to use 'the standard' products, but MS seems to be intent on commercial suicide at times - so maybe I'll give Firefox a trial - I just HATE having to learn new software (like Office 2007, Vista, etc).

Although, I had 'learned' IE8 - most importantly, today I also 'learned' that IE8 is  :sealed: cr@p :sealed:

Ahh,

The sweet pleasure of being able to scroll up and down my lengthy reply - without having to 'visualise' what I am typing.

Yes, Juan, I have ABANDONED the misery of Internet Explorer v8.

I just hope that my all-new installation of FireFox doesn't leave me traumatised

Hi Niall,

As a software developer who has to develop also for the web, I say you *thanks*. Knowing of one more person who ceases using that "browser" is always excellent news.

I'm sure it won't. Firefox is a rock-solid, standards-compliant web browser. The new PixInsight website will look nicely on it ;)

Hi Juan,

The best thing about my decision to change . . . .

I decided that 'enough was enough' - I will NEVER use IE8 again, I made the change to FireFox on ALL of my PC's at home (and within the family - seven of them, all carried out remotely using TeamViewer).

And I felt a big weight come off my shoulders.

And then I came into work this morning to discover that we had had a global 'Corporate Upgrade' - and all of our PCs were now in IE8 - so I am right back to 'square one'  >:(  >:(  >:(

And, of course, the scrolling problem has returned  :'(

Hi all,

Just a follow-up to the interesting problem of erroneous scrolling on the reply window here on the PI Forum (which only came to light in recent updates of MS Internet Explorer)

If you turn ON the 'Compatibility View' in MSIE, the problem seems to go away.

This suggests that the latest incarnation of MSIE is, in fact, INCOMPATIBLE with the rest of the known universe :yell: thus comfortably demonstrating that MS is controlled by a bunch of retards (or, at least, it should be - they might do a better job).

Thankfully, Juan has now converted me to Firefox, and the world is good  O:)

Hi Harry,

What, you want an Avatar AND win the AstronOscars this year? Just plain greedy.

Still in France, paying about 40€ / word for my Internet connections. Should have held this training course down in Juan's garage - it would have been MUCH more productive (for me anyway - who cares if these guys learn anything, astroimageprocessing is MUCH more useful than uninterruptible power supplies ::))
