hoe to merge two luminace channel to achieve superior SNR

hi,
I am sure I've read this somewere in the forum but I couldn't find it.

I need to improve my luminance data, so I want to mix L bin1x1 with a luminance extracted from my RGB bin 2 image.
Possibly I'd like to control the merge to decide between resulution and improvement in SNR.
