OSC Dual Band Filters. Optolong L-eNhance
« on: 2019 July 02 06:29:53 »
Good day everyone, I have been searching the forum and couldn't find a post on this but if I missed one my apologies.

Here is my Setup:

Celestron CGEM on a Pier
Skywatcher ED80 Pro (Gold)
Celestron Nightscape 8300

I used to shoot Narrowband using the Astonomik Ha 12nm Clip filter and loved the results but not the resolution loss but still amazing results.  My son pulled on the strap and that camera fell to the ground.  I bought a Celestron Nightscape 8300, I then wanted to shoot Narrowband again and bought a Baader 7nm Ha Filter but I didn't like the results.  I have upgraded my telescope since then, same camera though.  I had the Orion 8" F4 newt and now the SW ED80Pro.

I bought the Optolong L-eNhance filter and looking for advice on how to process these images in PI.  Do I process just like a Bayer image or extract each channel and combine into the hubble pallete?

Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff - I have the Triad Tri-Band filter which is very similar to the Optolong filter. I processed it just like a normal Bayer image and the colors turned out very reasonable. I think you will like this filter. I have bad light pollution which dominates my noise. The Triad filter has allowed me to exclude the majority of the LP and capture 9 minute exposures resulting in a much improved stacked image.

Best of success. Where will you be posting your processed image?

Steve

I just bought the upgraded subscription to Astrobin.  Most of the images there are old.  I haven't had a chance to upload anything new.

Thanks Jeff - I have been posting on a new site named The Sky Searchers at the link below. Very friendly place.

I'm using the STC Duo with ASI071

Some images are fine with standard OSC processing, e.g.

//www.astrobin.com/400644/

But when there's subtantial H-alpha and OIII overlap I had to split the R & G channels and follow a narrowband protocol, e.g.
//www.astrobin.com/413163
//www.astrobin.com/410043/
Otherwise the H-alpha dominates everything
