« on: 2018 December 21 02:16:13 »
HI,

Just bought PI, desperate to get my hands on this book but release date seems to have slipped, was due for release in UK 16th December 2018 but I cant find stock, although have seen it for sale in US.

Anyone know when it will be available in UK?

Thanks
Jon

Hi - I bought mine on the Springer site. At the moment they have a deal too, so if you buy a second book you will get £30 off. I got two books for less than the list price of PI v2.

The site says that this is printed on demand and will take 8-10 days to arrive. Alternatively, you can buy the ebook version now.

I preordered from Springer and when I recently asked about delivery I got (in part) this rather strange reply
“The book has been temporarily on hold because the spine did not fit. I do not know the new pub date. I already told customer service that as soon as I am notified of a new pub date, I will let them know.

Consequently, your order will be dispatched once the book is available again.”

Hi guys, first up, apologies for the delay. You'd think that an author would have some control or even more information than the general public. Unfortunately, I don't have much to offer. Here's what I can tell you. I have not received my complimentary copies. I've not heard a word about them or my bulk order of 175 books. Yesterday, a customer of ip4 ap.com wrote me with the surprising and upsetting news that although he somehow managed to procure a book from Amazon USA because he had pre-ordered it long ago, the book was misassembled with blocks of pages in the wrong place. Ugh!! Needless to say, I've alerted my editors in New York City about this, and asking what the heck is going on. Geoff, the comment about the spine is not inaccurate. I was told that the big part of the delay was that Springer has switched to a new printer and that we're promised that the quality of the ink and the paper will be better than the first edition, which of course is good news. The bad news was that certain files were not properly updated for the new printer, the spine of the book being among these. Supposedly, it's all sorted out now and hopefully we'll all see second edition books soon. Happy holidays to all, and again, although I have no part in this delay, I apologize for the inconvenience! Thanks for your interest and your continued support.
Best always, Warren

Warhen

Sorry to hear about the troubles. Sounds like book printing is becoming a lost art form. And it's not like Springer is a small publisher or new to printing. Well I hope that things get sorted quickly and many can soon enjoy and learn from your knowledge and efforts with PixInsight.

I am the one that received the hard copy and not with standing the assembly problem, the print quality is much better.  Images have a slight gloss to them and show more detail.  Also the font size is a little bigger than the first book making it more readable.

Just received my 2nd edition from Amazon today. It seems that the book’s index is not correct.
Anyone else have the same issue?
None of the topics I looked up, about 5 different ones, were correctly referenced.  Perhaps the first edition index was printed instead?

You are right.  I have had mine for almost a week and discovered mine had page sections misassembled but I did not look at the index.  Mine is incorrect also.  Mine came from Amazon and there is a replacement on the way due Sunday.  I will check it for both of those problems and report back.  I have the first addition and the new index does not fit the first book either.

Larry and Jim, Thanks for contacting me privately this week. Jim, as you know- Hannah @ Springer is on this. As of yesterday, Springer's head of production did not know where these unauthorized copies are being produced. It's very disturbing. Apparently, officially, the book hasn't been given the go for production. Hopefully it will be sorted soon, and the index corrected. One ray of sunshine in this mess is Larry's report that the new version looks better than the first edition and it was worth them changing printers. I apologize for the inconvenience, though it's way beyond my control, and it's disappointing and embarrassing that such an anticipated title has had such a rocky start.

I received the second copy of the book from Amazon which was printed in Middletown, DE (the first copy was printed in California) and it was not misassembled.  However, the issue with the index was still a problem.   Index page numbers do not agree with the actual subject page.  Springer is aware of the issue.
