Access violation installing modules
« on: 2018 November 28 18:29:25 »
I downloaded three .dlls from Carlos's web page http://www.astrophoto.cl/Research.html : TGV-pxm, InterChannelCurves-pxm, and CMIntensity-pxm.  They all give me an access violation error when I do Process / Modules / Install Modules in PI on my Windows 10 computer (see attached image).

Can anyone tell me how to get around this?

I think those binaries are fairly old and not compatible with current versions of PI.

They are old modules that are no longer compatible with the current PI builds. They would need a minimum of recompiling and possibly other coding. All third party add ons are subject to this possibility since they are not official PI modules written and maintained by PixInsight.

Thanks, folks.  I'll check with Carlos about updating his .dlls.

Hi,

I have the same problem. I started using PI 4 days ago (total newbie) and it did run nice the first 2 days and then I started to have all sort of problems.

Here my message yesterday https://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=12926.0

So far no answer. Do I need to upload some new files ?

regards Rainer

I just sent a PM to Carlos, the author of the .dlls which won't install, referring him to this thread.  I will post if I hear anything, or perhaps he will post here.

he seems MIA for a while now... but hopefully he will respond

i had built his modules for OSX in the distant past and at some point he stopped posting the source code.

Hi TinySpeck,

Look at this post.

https://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=12926.msg78724

I am running now the PI again and the PCL error has not showed up again.

OK, perhaps I have not yet made enough runs  :)

Will keep processing and see what happens.

Good luck Rainer, and I hope it keeps working for you!  That's not quite what I was seeing.  PI runs just fine for me, the only time I've seen the access violations is when trying to install the .dlls from Carlos.  I still haven't heard from him; I hope I do soon.

Yes, they use many of Carlos's special scripts at PixInsight Resources, a tutorial and education site I really like.
