HELP - DSLR RAW settings and ImageIntegration
« on: 2018 September 30 21:25:37 »
When I am creating Master Bias, Dark, or Flat frames the last step in each case is to use ImageIntegration to combine the individual Bias, Dark or Flat images into the Master image. Because the output of the ImageIntegration process is an image on the workspace I'm wondering if the settings in the RAW Format Preferences window (see image below) will affect the result.

In other words, do I need a specific setting of the RAW Format Preferences to ensure that each integrated Master image is in the correct format?  For example, does it matter if the Pure Raw button is clicked rather than the de-Bayer RGB button?

I don't understand if the settings discussed above affect only the displayed image on the screen, or, if they affect the actual format of the image when it is saved to file.

those settings control what happens when a DSLR RAW file is *opened*. you can't actually write a DSLR raw file from PI (or any other program, to my knowledge.)

so if you load a bunch of CR2 bias or dark frames into ImageIntegration, the settings in this module will control how they are opened by the process.* you should be using "pure raw" for DSLR files because DSLR files can't be calibrated properly unless you open them as pure raw.

rob

* caveat - the file explorer settings can be overridden with Input Format hints, such as "raw cfa" (no quotes) to force raw mode and CFA mode when opening DSLR images.

Thanks rob - Makes sense, and, thanks for the caveat.
If I remember right you helped me get the manual Precal going in the first place. Your continued help is much appreciated.
