Star Halos after RGB Channel Combination
« on: 2018 August 27 02:46:39 »
Hi all,
Got a decent three hour RGB 2x2 binned data set on M51 but struggling with star halo artefacts immediately after using channel combination tool (with default settings).

Nothing done to the image at all other than default settings BPP script of the R, G and B subs (registered to a 1x1 luminance master frame) then Integrated with drizzle in Image Integration tool followed by channel combination.   Not even got to DBE or Color Calibration stages.  Tried a linear fit of the channels to see if that could get rid of the star halos but that does not work.  The picture is just a screenshot of the image with screen transfer function applied so as I could show the problem in the linear state without doing a full stretch.

What do you guys think please?

Many thanks,
Steve

You say you "integrated with drizzle in the Image Integration tool".

Maybe it's just the way you described it but for the avoidance of doubt, can you clarify if you ran the DrizzleIntegration process after running the ImageIntegration process?

Mark,
What I mean is I used the Image Integration tool and I select the registered subs and also used the drizzle files that I generated when I did image registration. I always do this.

OK - doing that will update the drizzle files i.e. the .xdrz files.  You must now run the DrizzleIntegration process on those .xdrz files.  The ImageIntegration process does not produce a drizzled image.  DrizzleIntegration is the only process that produces a drizzled image.
