combining bias sets with different gains
« on: 2018 March 16 12:48:21 »
Hi,

Here's a somewhat trivial little question:
I have 2 sets of 60 each bias files. Identical except one was at 350 gain and the other at 327 gain oops.
Do you think it's OK to integrate these as one set, into a single MasterBias?

Thanks!

James

Well, I have integrated both sets into a single masterbias and it looks OK so I'll assume it can be done safely. I wanted to check here because there's so many warnings about bias and dark files needing to be the same.

You need to do your bias, dark, flat and light frames with a consistent gain.  Otherwise you will have potential calibration issues.  A master bias crated from a mixture of gains may look OK but it won't behave properly.

Thank you, Mark.

It was so close I thought maybe-. Well its easy to shoot more bias anyway.
