Black Star Centres After HDR
« on: 2017 December 21 23:57:23 »
Hi,

When I'm doing a HDR of Orion's Nebula, I'm getting wierd black star centres.

I am following Light Vortex Tutorials (to the letter) which seem to be very good although I was wondering if it is my choice of stacking and rejection is causing the issue as I'm using Linear Clip for my 300 second set as it is 43 images.  I cannot remember if it is there when using Winsorized or not. Been trying for a few days on and off. If I stack un-calibrated images of 30, 120, and 300 seconds I get no issues and it looks good except the noise.

Any thoughts or feedback welcome.

Cheers,

Graham.

At first glance it looks like the short exposure may not be properly registered with the longer exposures.

I assume you used a star mask for HDR otherwise you will get the dark center in bright stars.

Thanks for the replies.

No, I did not know about the mask for HDR.

Can you please point me to a tutorial as none of the ones I have seen mention this. Does HDR not create a mask anyway?

Cheers,

Graham.

Check out STAR MASK 1 video at   http://www.harrysastroshed.com/pixinsight/pixinsight%20video%20html/pixinsighthomeinter.html

Harry's videos have been invaluable to me.

I am aware of that video, and I know how to create a star mask, I am not able to see how I would use that in the HDRComposition tool, not HDR Multiscale Transform.
