New DSLR_RAW module based on LibRaw
« on: 2017 October 23 02:27:09 »
Hi all,

Just a note to let you know that the next version of our DSLR_RAW format support module will use LibRaw instead of dcraw.

Unfortunately, it looks like dcraw has been discontinued. The latest version was released in May 2016, and it added little to the previous one, released almost one year before, back in 2015.

Fortunately, we have LibRaw, which is a live open-source project providing all of dcraw's functionality, and much more. So I am starting to work on a stable integration of LibRaw with our PCL development framework. The next version of our DSLR_RAW support module won't depend on dcraw anymore. Instead, it will integrate LibRaw and hence will support new cameras, now and in the foreseeable future. It will also come with new debayering algorithms. So stay tuned.

The new DSLR_RAW module will be released as an open-source product. This is consistent with the new open-source policy I described when I announced version 1.8.5, where my goal is to have all PixInsight modules and tools released as open-source in the medium term.

Hi Juan.
Since I´ve run into problems probably caused by a bug in dcraw (https://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=11840.0), I´m most interested to try out the libraw based DSLR_RAW module.
When will it be implemented in PI?

BR,
Lage
