Re: Arcsinh stretch not showing after update [FIXED]

I had the same problem on my linux box (main pc) but not on my mac.

Here is how I fixed it:
Started PixInsight with the following option:

$ PixInsight --default-modules

And voila, the new stuff showed up in the console window:

Code: [Select]
Initializing PixInsight...

JavaScript runtime initialized.

Installing 48 module(s):
...
/opt/PixInsight/bin/ArcsinhStretch-pxm.so
* Scripting resources updated.
48 of 48 module(s) installed.

So if you start the binary using the console window and add this option, PixInsight should fix itself for you. Maybe there is a better way of doing this somewhere in the menu, bit it fixed the problem for me.

Hi  Juan

Or use Linux or macOS, where these things don't happen.

Really sorry Juan but the same happened re the arcsinh stretch module on my iMac. Easily resolved but it would appear there was something strange with this update.

Chris

See my message #15 in this thread: it happens with linux too.
I figured out how to fix it using the command following line option:
Code: [Select]
PixInsight --default-modules

Maybe this gives a hint about how the bug was introduced. To my knowledge I have not changed modules and I have no idea why default-modules should make a difference, but it did! My Centos7 Linux System has no antivirus but I do have SELinux enabled.

Hi Peter,

As you probably know, we use many Linux machines (dozens, literally) as users and developers. The entire PixInsight platform is being developed on Linux. I have not seen a single problem with this update on any of our machines, including all Linux boxes, as well as a variety of machines running macOS 10.12, OS X 10.10 and 10.11, and Windows 7 SP1, 8.1, and 10.

Sorry but there is no bug in this update package. I have verified the package file on our server and it is correct (and if it were incorrect or corrupt, the update system wouldn't allow you to install it because it would detect a checksum mismatch). None of the problems reported here can be reproduced on our working and testing machines. Without a repeatable pattern or a verifiable description of a problem, we cannot confirm a bug report. Until the contrary is proven, the problems being reported here must be caused by conflicts with other applications, issues with wrong system components, or incorrect installations. All of these are out of our control.

Hi Juan

I am sure its a windows update thing causing a problem , but with security in mind I will not uninstall any windows updates etc

Just to let you know , I received the update and it installed just fine and was visible after the first restart after installation there seemed to be no problem .

it was only when I started PI up the next time had the process disappeared !!!!!!!!! and required manual installation

Regards

Harry

Process>Modules>Install Modules. Hit Search and it should find the one additional module and hit install. That fixed it for me.

While Arcsinh works as intended, it does not appear in the list of all processes when I start a second PI instance. Win10 here. Thanks!

Juan, I respectfully disagree. I am running Ubuntu, no virus ware, and arcsinhstretch was not available as well. I ran the command line prompt that peter recommended and it now is available.

I looked in the Program Files\pixinsight\bin folder and saw the Arcsinh Stretch dll. I went to Process/Modules/Install Module and searched the directory and it found the module. I then manually installed. It now shows up under Intensity Transformations.

Had same issue! Manually installed worked!

Had same issue on Win10 machines.
Came across this post when reading about the wondrous Arcsinh and wondering why didn't have it :)

I'm inclined to agree with a previous poster that it's related to fact that PI process doesn't appear to terminate (on Win10 anyway) when you close the main window.
I assume that PI doesn't save its settings (E.g. new modules etc.) until the process exits so if you close the main window and then shutdown Windows the settings are lost.
This seems to be backed up by experiment as on my machines Arcsinh only stuck after I did a File-Exit instead of just closing the window.

Update: the issue of the process being left running seems related to the installing of the module. Process seems to end properly when the main window closes except when a module has been manually installed.

I've just had the same problem on a brand new MacBook Pro (fresh out of the box, OS X 10.13.6).

After installing Pixinsight, 48 modules including Arcsinh were located in /bin, but only 47 loaded during PI startup, and Arcsinh is the one missing.

I fixed it by going to Process --> Modules --> Install Modules

But simply clicking "Search" with the Search Directory unchanged (/Applications/PixInsight/bin) resulted in no new modules being found. I forced the issue by:

1) changing the Search directory to "/Applications/PixInsight" (no bin), performing a search (no new modules, unsurprisingly), and then...

2) adding /bin back into the search path, and searching again - this time I got the moving progress bar quickly followed by 1 new module found (Arcsinh).

I've since tried closing PI using the Quit PixInsight menu option, and also by simply closing down the window. So far, Arcsinh remains visible.

i think also there might be a checkbox to do a recursive search under whatever directory you have chosen... did you happen to have that unchecked?
