Arcsinh stretch not showing after update

On my Win64 machine, I just updated PixInsight and after restart, the arcsinh stretch process does not show up. I can go to "view installed updates" as see the update containing the stretch has be installed.

I did have the non-official module loaded, but I had to remove it as it was not working.

Any thoughts other than fresh install of PixInsight?

I looked in the Program Files\pixinsight\bin folder and saw the Arcsinh Stretch dll. I went to Process/Modules/Install Module and searched the directory and it found the module. I then manually installed. It now shows up under Intensity Transformations.

I have released many updates without any problems on any platform since the release of PixInsight 1.8.5 in August. PixInsight's update system has not changed in any way since then. The update packages for this module are correct and can be installed automatically without problems on our test machines. So the problem you are reporting is obviously not being caused by PixInsight.

This and similar problems, like .dll files being truncated to zero length 'mysteriously', are being reported since Microsoft's latest Windows updates (updates released since early September). Try uninstalling recent system updates from Control Panel. There is nothing I can do to fix these issues, which are being caused by erratic/buggy system components. Or use Linux or macOS, where these things don't happen.

Strange.. It is not showing up on the process list, but is showing as installed on the update log.. Never faced this issue with new modules before

and btw, my windows hasn't been updated for some time. So, nothing to do with September updates, and am not switching to MacOX/ Linux unless the pixinsight team mentions this as an absolute necessity while selling the software.

I also experienced the problem of arcsinhStretch disapperaing after install reported by the OP vagrom.  The fix was as he described - find it and manually reinstall.  Additionally, I discovered that my usual way to close PI by clicking on the upper right hand window "X" did not cause the install to "stick".  The reason was that PI did not close by doing that; Task Manager indicated that it was still running in the background as a process.  I had to close PI by selecting "Close" under the File menu.  Doing that properly closed PI and made the arcsinhStretch install permanant.  Whatever the cause, after closing PI in the formal way described in the session that installed arsinhStretch, I can now close PI either way in subsequent sessions uneventfully.  BTW, arsinhStretch works great.

I hate to have to join in on this posting but I had to do the manual install also. Very odd. Just for completeness, Windows 7. This is the first PI problem I think I've had since early 1.8.3 maybe so very odd. Anyway no problem after the manual install. On my computer I can exit with either the X in the top right or the menu exit with no ill effect. Arcsinh is still there after restarting PI.

Arcsinh was installed automatically and runs nicely.
Thos who like strong colors will like it thos who lie not strong colors
can simply reduce them.
It looks like getting no colors into the stars is an issue from yesterday now.

I succesfully used the ArcsinhStretch module yesterday, but today it was missing when I started PixInsight. I was able to add it back manually though. I'm on a 64-bit Windows 10.

Really sorry Juan but the same happened re the arcsinh stretch module on my iMac. Easily resolved but it would appear there was something strange with this update.

Hi Chris,

I have installed this update without problems on 4 Mac machines, running OS X 10.10, 10.11 and macOS 10.12. The update packages are correct for all platforms; I've just verified this on our server. The update is perfectly normal, there cannot be something strange in it; it's just one regular file.

Nobody has reported this issue on macOS before. Are you using a virus protection application?

No virus protection running. Machine is a late 2015 i7 iMac running High Sierra. Update ran perfectly normally but that arcsinh module didn't appear after the PI restart. The same happened on my Windows laptop.

I have had the same problem with this module on two separate machines , updated PixInsight, the module was installed and I did some processing with it to see what it was like. Closed the programme down, it was under process, it’s now disappeared.

Note this has happened on win10 laptop and a separate Linux pc running mint 18.1, both day module is installed, now no longer in process
