Hi Stuart,
I wouldn't call that 'microscopic' for a 15" display, just a bit small, but of course this is a matter of personal preferences.
From the screenshot you've posted, your laptop seems to have a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. In PixInsight 1.8.5, this is interpreted as a conventional resolution, not as a high-dpi resolution. The first high-dpi resolution is 4K = 3840×2160, that is, the smallest screen dimension has to be > 2000 to be considered as a high-density display. For atypical cases like this one, with relatively small monitors and 'medium' pixel densities, the application applies now a default scaling factor of 1.0 for sanity. In previous versions, the application tried to apply higher scaling factors in these cases based on physical display dimensions, but this has proven to be very error prone on Windows and was causing multiple and varied issues. I have favored stability over adaptability in these cases.
Your workaround is the correct one. In your case a scaling factor of 1.5 seems very appropriate. 2.0 would also be acceptable if you prefer larger fonts and icons.
