Depending on your image, DBE might be one of the most important steps. After using it just a few times, I'm already wishing for some enhancements to the process:

Shortcuts
After adding many points from the generation feature, you probably have to move many of them around. I really like the automatic view transformation when paging through the points for this purpose. But, the mouse-based workflow here is very tedious; you click the next button, move to the image and adjust the point, and repeat. A couple of hotkeys to page between points would be excellent.

Masks
Perhaps the previous enhancement would be unnecessary if more points were already placed well, although, shortcuts should not be too demanding in resources. If the generation could read a mask applied to an image, there could be a mask "threshold" parameter that would not place points where a mask was dominant in the point's area. I usually have a star mask at this point in the process.

Jittering
This seems to be the most complex suggestion here, but I think it would work well with the mask idea. Generated points are obviously in a grid currently. There would almost certainly be less points generated with a mask than without, considering the added restraint. What if when the points were placed, they could jitter around a parameterized area to possibly find an area that's least dominated by the mask. The end result could be that some of the points that would've been culled by the mask might find a new position not far from its initial position, but in an area that you would've likely moved it to anyway.

Hi,

Whilst I don't have the specific thread references to hand (and, right now I don't have the time to search for them) Juan Conejero has suggested (if I remember right) that some of the new features of the next, imminent, release of PixInsight may actually make the reliance on DBE less 'essential' - in other words the new pre-processing stages will mitigate against the very gradients that DBE was created to eliminate.

Something to look forward to!
Cheers,
