PixInight doesn't start after upgrade
« on: 2016 November 15 10:53:54 »
I have recently upgraded from Ununtu 15.10 to 16.10. I also upgraded PixInsight to the latest (01.08.04.1198)

The PixInsight installation proceeded exactly as expected (as documented on the forum) but when I launch it nothing happens.

I've tried running /pi-install/PixInsight/bin/PixInsight.sh but is says "command not found"

The first line of this file is
#!/bin/bash
is this correct?

Any ideas what's going on or how I can get some sort of diagnostic output that will tell me?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike, not sure but if the installation was well you can check if it run by clicking PixInsight.sh that you should have in the Root folder (/opt/PixInsight/bin/)

Saludos, Alejandro.

Hi Mike,

If you have installed the application with default settings, the installer program creates a /bin/PixInsight launcher script, so you can run PixInsight anywhere on your filesystem by just saying PixInsight. The installer also integrates PixInsight with any freedesktop-compatible desktop manager, such as Gnome or KDE, so you should have a PixInsight application entry in the Graphics category of your launcher menu. Unless Ubuntu 16.10 has changed in a weird nonstandard way, which I seriously doubt, this must work.

At any rate, you should have an /opt/PixInsight directory. You can always run the installer program again, without parameters to perform a new standard installation.

A completely different problem is that if you have performed a clean Ubuntu 16.10 installation, then your system lacks a couple of required dependencies. See this thread for an easy solution to this issue.

Hi Juan,
that was the problem. Installing the two packages from the 16.04 version fixed it.
Thanks very much for your help.
