Drizzle Integration - Always excluding top section
« on: 2016 November 12 03:28:39 »
Hello Juan/PxI Team

Since the last update to the Drizzle Integration module, my images are ending up with a rectangular area at the top where fewer subframes are contributing.  Whereas in the regular integration module all images contribute (with minor exceptions due to rotation, dithering, etc), the Drizzle result always has a lower number of frames contributing to the final result.  I attach a couple of screenshots.  At first I thought it had something to do with the bug that was recently fixed for meridian flips but I continue to experiment the problem.  Note that if I Drizzle Integrate for a ROI, this does not happen.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Roberto

This is very strange. I can't reproduce anything similar with any of our test data sets.

Can you upload a set of calibrated (but not registered) frames where this can be reproduced?

Hi Juan

Thanks for looking into it. It's quite a few images (36, 65MB each). Do you want a Dropbox link? Just to confirm you want the pre-aligned ones? Rather than those that go into the Integration module?

Hi Roberto,

A dropbox link will be fine, as long as I don't have to sign in dropbox to download the files. Yes, the calibrated, pre-aligned frames is what I need to investigate this issue. Thank you!

Juan

Uploading them to Google Drive now. A good 1.6GB!

Gracias!

Hi Roberto,

Thank you for the data upload. I have carried out a drizzle integration without any problems. Excellent image BTW. See this screenshot. I have no idea why you've been having problems with this data set. The result is very nice, as you can see.

Juan

Thank you! Could it be down to the registration I used and the drizzle files I obtained?  I have done this process three times now on this image with the same results: good Integtation result but defective Drizzle. This happened to me also on a luminance master for IC5146 I captured roughly at the same time.
Is there a way of comparing your drizzle files to mine? I could upload mine to the same place...

Thanks again

Roberto

I just tried this once more - after PxI installed its latest update dated 13 Nov, which included an updated Integration module - and also changed the settings in the Integration screen for the Weights from "Additive" to "Additive with scaling" and the result was correct!
Not sure if the combination if the above or any one in particular of these small changes made the difference but the result is as expected now.

Hi Robert,

Glad to know it's working. Installing all of the available updates is always important because they fix known problems and bugs. Sometimes an update may cause regressions, but that's what software development is all about: a constant improvement trend with occasional backsteps. There was a bug that I fixed with an update two weeks ago. The bug has been relevant in this case because you have images rotated by 180 degrees (meridian flips). See this thread for more information.
